The Nomad is made of smooth, clean, unfinished poplar hardwood, not
pine. Many of the pine frames on the market have a rough splintery feel.
Pine averages 18% moisture content, our hardwood is kiln dried to 8%,
which means it's far less likely to split or warp. This pure untreated
wood is preferred by many consumers seeking a natural, hypo-allergenic
alternative to todays chemical laden products. We have been selling
furniture since 1984 and these are the finest quality unfinished bed
frames we have seen. *Assembly required. -SORRY, WE DO NOT SHIP TO
ALASKA OR HAWAII.
I bought this because the other reviews said it wasn't splintery.
They're right... for a good cheap platform frame, it's pretty solid.
It's quite high off the floor, which is great for storing stuff under
it, but is a little odd for something that's futonic.
It's easy to
put together, and the advice to tighten the screws again after the first
few weeks is good advice. I've un-assembled this and re-assembled it,
and it's still solid. This is a good buy.
My fiance and I searched every internet site and every furniture store
around us looking for a platform bed. We couldn't find a single thing
under $250, they were ALL made out of particle board and weighed over a
100 pounds! We were so excited when we found the Nomad bed that we
ordered it immediately. The shipping took half as long as the predicted
12 days; although, there was no tracking, which was frustrating. On the
morning of the fifth day as I was preparing to call Amazon to track
down whether or not the bed had even shipped, it showed up on our front
porch!
We set it up right then and there and it took us less than 15
minutes! It was sooo easy, all the pieces fit together perfectly! The
screws, though they do show, have a dark finish on them so they actually
look nice and give a natural, handmade look to a fairly contemporary
bed. There are slats that your mattress sits on, so if you have a
tempurpedic I would recommend getting some plywood to lay down, but our
regular mattress has been fantastic without plywood. It's so nice not
having to deal with a boxspring!
One of the best things about this
bed is that even though it's a platform, you can store stuff under it!
It's much higher off the ground than most platforms, so we could
actually put drawers underneath!
All-in-all, buying this bed was the
smartest purchase we ever made. The bolts screw into metal sockets, not
the wood, so whenever we move we'll have no problem taking the bed apart
and bringing it with us! It's going to be with us for a very long time!
I ordered this bed Tuesday afternoon and received it Friday. I
assembled it by myself in just under an hour. It was a joy to assemble;
the parts fit together just as described and the steps to assemble were
simple. The assembled bed is very sturdy. I walked across it without
the mattress on and I felt no weakness when applying my full weight (135
lbs) to a single slat. I had been concerned that the spacing between
the slats would be noticeable through my 10 inch latex mattress, but
that turned out to not be the case. I wasn't too excited about having
four screws in the center of the head and foot boards of the bed, but a
simple bed skirt hides them well.Durable, looks great. Far better than any metal bed frame. As to the
review about the center supports sticking up, if you don't install them
upside down you won't have that problem.Overly happy about my purchase and thanks to all the positive reviews
here, I made the right choice with this frame. Very study, beautiful
wood, simple, and comfortable. I managed to put the whole thing together
myself (I am 25 years old, 5'5, thin) but had no problems at all. The
hardest part was actaully just getting the box up to my second floor
(very heavy and long), although I am generally able to make anything
happen if I really want it to :)Very satisfied here!It feels a little loose in the joints, but it's been pretty good so far.
It provides enough room underneath for storing copy paper boxes easily
(and for my cats to hide). It also supports the 60-pound dog jumping
from the floor to the top of the mattress quite easily.
This is a high quality, American grown and made bed frame. I forget the
exact state but mine came with a piece of paper showing where the wood
was grown and where it was assembled. It was somewhere down south I
remember.
I use this frame to support my 18 inch deep memory foam
mattress. This setup results in the bed being roughly hip high which is
perfect in my opinion. The mattress rests directly on the frame with
nothing else needed. The slats are close enough together so that this
setup works great and also allows for extra breathability in the bed. I
also like that the frame is high enough off the ground that I can store a
whole bunch of stuff under the bed.
The wood used is of nice
quality and is thick enough that this frame is very sturdy. The bolts
used to assemble the frame go into metal inserts in the wood which means
you can assemble this bed as many times as needed and it will always be
tight. I am a heavy person and I can jump all over on my bed and this
frame doesn't make so much as a peep.So far so good with this frame! I'm not sure about what some other
people were talking about there space between the frame and the support
planks. My mattress doesn't feel raised or dented anywhere. Now, that
could be because I have a thick pillow top mattress, so I don't know how
it would be with a foam mattress. I really don't see there being a
problem though. The only thing I didn't like about this frame was how
high it made my bed. I was looking for a platform bed so that my
toddler wouldn't need help getting in a out if she needed me, but the
top of the bed is at my waist. lol And, of course, that's without a box
spring. Though there is a good amount of space for storage under the
frame, so that's a plus from your typical platform bed. :) If you have
little ones (or are clumsy) you'll want to put something over the
corners of the frame. They aren't jagged, but it's a fairly pointed
corner. My daughter got scratched once. A bed skirt will blunt it.
All in all, I really do love this frame though. Me and my roommate put
it together fairly quickly. You basically make two ladders and connect
them to the body. Very simple. And I haven't bothered to stain the
wood. It's a nice color on its own, and a bed skirt covers it anyway.
Oh, and it's sturdy. My two year old decided to jump on my bed and it survived. :)
We didn't know what kind of bed we wanted before remodeling and
decorating which would take a year or two, and were tired of sleeping on
the floor. An hour of online research yielded this company's frame as
the best priced, seemingly strongest, environmentally unharmful,
made-in-the USA temporary option and we aren't disappointed on any
front. It doesn't move or squeak and we're restless sleepers (don't
forget to go back to re-tighten the bolts after a few days). Everything
fit together easily and sensibly with a clean pure wood scent. It
doesn't stick out from the mattress to bark unsuspecting shins but fits
as it should while grabbing the mattress so it doesn't migrate. Good
timely shipping as well. When we finally get the "real bed" we plan to
saw the frame in half, bolt the backs to the wall, pile on some fabric
and cushions and have a nice banquette in the living room. Highly
recommended.
I don't know what the big deal was with putting it together. So many
people complained about it being heavy or having a bump in the middle.
Not true. I'm a 5'2" woman and I put that bed together in less than 15
minutes. The instructions are super simple and the bed was ridiculously
easy to put together. No bump in the middle at all. Especially if you
put it together correctly. My husband only helped with move it once I
got all the pieces in. I can take it apart and put it together quickly
and easily for moving. Once together it weighs maybe 100 lbs. Solid
wood, not particle, and smells wonderful! The wood is ready for
painting or staining as well. On top of that it's also very tall. I
love tall beds so this was ideal for me. My cats also enjoy them
because, well, it's a hiding place. Plus...the bed doesn't wiggle,
shake, or make any noise while, uh, my husband and I do what lovers do.
LOL
